IPL - Indian Premier League :

IPL or Indian Premier League is a Twenty20 Cricket competition. It is organized by Board of control for cricket in India (BCCI). The chairman for the event is Mr Lalit Modi, vice president of BCCI.

In June 2007, Lalit Modi met Andrew Wildblood from International Managment Group, a company that expertise in sports managment. Modi wanted to re-energise Indian domestic game and suggested the idea of Twenty20 cricket league in India.

In thier second meeting which took place in london, they decided to make thier vision a reality by 2008. To start something this huge from scratch and get it ready in a time span of less then 9 months was really really a very big challenge. But, the way whole thing turned up was quiet amazing.

It was decided that eight domestic teams will be playing with one another, followed by semi-final and final and thus the commercial model and investor context can be implemented. Wildblood said “Lalit and I always believed in it anyway and have always kept encouraging each other to go for it, but there is no doubt this was a stroke of luck. Twenty20’s profile suddenly went sky high.”

Bidding stared in december. among the bidders were few high profile people. From top industrialist to Film stars, they all added to the glamour of the game. The players auction was a huge event with money flowing like never before. The auction fetched a total amount of US $723.59 million.
